Osho Trypan Blue (Veterinary Trypanocide for Livestock)

Active Ingredient & Formulation

• Active molecule: Trypan Blue (azo dye), typically formulated as a 1% (10 mg/mL) intravenous solution.

• Sold in 30 mL amber glass injection vials in many veterinary suppliers.

Indications & Uses

• Used primarily to treat animal trypanosomiasis (e.g. canine babesiosis, livestock trypanosomes).

• Recommended especially in severe or high-parasitaemia cases where other drugs may risk hemolysis—often as initial therapy before follow-up with other trypanocides (e.g. diminazene, imidocarb)

Dosage

• Slow intravenous injection: typically 1 mL per kg body weight (10 mg/kg) in livestock and dogs

Features & Limitations

• High therapeutic index: generally considered safe, even in critical cases, due to minimal systemic side effects

• Temporary suppression: clinical signs usually improve quickly, but parasites may reappear within 9–12 days, necessitating follow-up trypanocide administration

• Side effect: causes tissues and secretions (e.g., skin, urine) to turn blue-green, sometimes lasting weeks.

Precautions & Storage

• Use only fresh solutions, as toxicity increases with storage time

• Strict IV administration only—not for intramuscular or subcutaneous use due to tissue irritation.

• Not recommended during early pregnancy.

• Maintain proper withdrawal periods, though specific times may vary by region; typical recommendations: meat ~7 days, milk minimal or as per label.

• Keep away from light and heat. Store at controlled room temperature in amber vials.
