Seed Co SC 608 is a medium-maturing yellow maize hybrid, reaching physiological maturity in approximately 128 to 136 days. It boasts a high yield potential, with reports indicating up to 13 tonnes per hectare under optimal conditions . SC 608 is well-suited for both green mealie consumption and silage production, thanks to its large, sweet cobs and excellent standability. It exhibits good tolerance to heat and drought, making it adaptable to various climatic conditions, including Zambia’s Regions II and III. Additionally, SC 608 shows moderate resistance to Maize Streak Virus and good tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot and cob diseases . Its dent grain texture and ability to thrive at plant densities up to 65,000 plants per hectare further enhance its appeal to farmers.
